Game settings

Here I’m going over the best settings for consistent performance

Game Settings

Full screen (if you have 2 monitors you can have this on borderless if you want, just keep in mind there’s a slight difference in mouse input)

Refresh Rate is not the reason why you are not improving, but it sure feels good to go from 60 to 144 so give it a shot if you can. I use 240 and it’s nice. It should be the last upgrade you make.

Resolutions should be set to your monitors max, and also your refresh rate

Everything Low 75% Render Scale

Vsync off

Triple buffering off

Reduce buffering on

Cap your frame rates at 10 more than what your PC can handle in team fights,

You can have some different settings if you feel like it and your PC can handle it, but I’m going over the optimal settings

I use 100 render scale with ultra models and effects, this makes enemies hit box easier to see and track at the cost of more input lag. This is fine because my PC is able to keep my monitor refresh rate consistent. Use enemy outline strength at around 33%. This helps make head hit boxes more visible and easier to track with the eyes.

Here’s a picture of Taimou’s setup

(I do recommend using reduce buffering as it can help stabilize fps)

Use the same crosshair for all heroes for the most consistent results, this is something personal, so if you already using different crosshairs it’s fine.

Drivers

Make sure your drivers are installed and updated constantly for the best performance.

You should be able to search your graphics card online for a download link.

If you don’t know how to do this just search it online, there are many guides online and I won’t go over this.

This can lead to big FPS (frames per second) increase if you haven’t updated them in a while, so make sure to check it out if you haven’t.

Sensitivity

Having a good sensitivity is important, but it’s not crucial, you are the one making the shot, not your mouse. Dps players are usually have the lowest sensitivity, tanks have the highest and support in between.

If you don’t know what DPI is, you probably don’t have your mouse drivers installed, just search up the name of your mouse online, you should find a download somewhere.

I recommend arm aiming, which means using your whole arm to move the mouse, wrist aiming is used by some players but your gonna be more consistent with arm aiming, which I will be going over on the posture part.

EDPI is found by multiplying dpi x your sensitivity

For projectile arm aiming you should use something around 3K to 7k EDPI (I use 4k)

Hitscan players generally use from 2K to 6K EDPI

Main Tank can use higher sens from 5K to 8K EDPI

Offtanks should have it a little bit lower around 4.5K to 7.5K EDPI

Supports can be around 3K to 7K EDPI

For scoped sensitivity I recommend to use 37.89 as that’s the 1:1 ratio on monitor distance, but turning 360 degrees scoped will only turn you 75 percent. This should make your flicks feel the same from the FOV used by widow and Ana. 50 sensitivity is also another options as it is true 1:1 on crosshair distance, I personally use 50 sensitivity since I aim with my wrist.

Ashe has a weird fov, her scope is 51.47

If you have something different don’t worry about it, it’s fine, we’re all different, however if you haven’t found a good sensitivity I recommend choosing somewhere in between that depending on your aiming style, again you should be arm aiming instead of wrist if you can.

You shouldn’t have it higher than 10k or less than 2k EDPI, or you might need a new shoulder.

Mouse acceleration

Disable Enhance Pointer Precision. This makes your movements always the same no matter how fast you move the mouse. Even if the game takes in raw mouse input, we’re trying to always be as consistent as possible. Everything adds up.

Some people might say that they prefer to enable it, no pro uses that setting enabled, it makes you less consistent and you won’t make muscle memory. Just trust me, you will get used, it feels so much better after you get used to it.

Tips

Please turn off steam, it’s just annoying. It makes your PC sluggish if it starts to download an update, who knows. A bot might send you a message and distract you in an important situation.

Put your discord on do not disturb. There’s nothing more annoying than being focused on a game and hearing the notification sound. It throws you out of your concentration.

Lower the sound of the voice chat you are using. Sometimes people can turn out to be really loud and you might not hear an ability or footsteps of your enemy.

Don’t play quick play if you’re trying to improve. Comp is always the best environment and SR is temporary. You are investing SR for skill. Skill will bring you SR. Having this mindset will make you climb so much faster, this can easiest make you climb ranks if you are not doing it.

144Hz and 240Hz

Higher refresh rates monitors feel really good. If you don’t have a 144 monitor yet, then you should definitely give it a try. If you don’t have the budget for one then 60hz should be fine. Space reached T500 on a 30 FPS setup.

I use a 240hz and it feels so smooth, wouldn’t be able to go back.

Higher refresh rates make your eyes feel better, but they are not the reason why you are stuck. Don’t expect to become better, it's like getting new wheels for your old car. It feels better, but the car won’t go any faster.

Solo queue is the best way to climb. You can focus only on yourself and you will be matched against solo queue players.

Here are rules you should follow on competitive
